Tokyo Reality (Canon 5D MarkII)
So here's another video shot with the upcoming Canon 5D Mark II on Vimeo. Shot in Tokyo, it's an amazing showcase of what can be accomplished within a short amount of time with just a single cameraman and a bag of lenses.

The first short film shot with the 5D Mk. II
It's up, and it really shows the possibilities! You'll want to see this video. It's causing quite a stir in the photographic world - full HD shot on a 35 mm film (digital) camera sized sensor with all the razor thin depth of field possibilities of that format plus the huge range of lenses available for DSLRs.
It's shot by Vincent Laforet - he's a Pullitzer Prize winning photographer sure, but he's never shot a short film before this. Oh, and he had 72 hours and a tiny budget he set himself ($5,000 including the flight over NYC.)
We're used to this with still images, but you'd have to spend loads of money to be set up to do this on video previously - Broadcast Quality Cameras don't come cheap, neither do lighting and all the other equipment required for a shoot like this. This camera has great sensitivity - you can shoot at night or the wee small hours in Brooklyn at iso 3200 with just the sodium street lamps for lighting and you're set!

Video on the 5D Mark II
Video on still cameras, stills on video cameras - it's a convergence of two historically separate disciplines; I, for one, am truly excited at the possibilities!
The 5D Mark II promises 1080p HD video at 30 frames per second. On a full frame 35mm still camera. Now that's amazing. I look forward to testing it out in the months ahead.

The Canon 5D Mark II Announced
As most of you know I love using the original Canon 5D - it was as close to a perfect portrait camera as ever there was. Now, with the announcement of the 5D Mark II, I'm excited as this camera exceeds my expectations, considerably at that.
"The anticipation surrounding the launch of this camera model has exceeded our greatest expectations, and we believe our loyal customers will be awed by the level of innovation and features built into the new EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR. Once they have the chance to experience the camera, we believe they will agree that it was worth the wait," - Yuichi Ishizuka, senior vice president and general manager, Consumer Imaging Group, Canon U.S.A.
