Ostrander Ski hut
Here is a short interview with a man who has been a hutkeeper during the winter months in Yosemite's Ostrander Ski Hut. He has been the hutkeeper for 35 years. I'm thinking this will be well worth the ski in one coming winter...
Yosemite is one of my favorite places. Yosemite in winter? Even better if you were asking me. Winter is something else entirely in Yosemite. Visit site »
Beetlecam!
This is an awesome idea: Attach a camera and a couple of flashes to a radio controlled robot, apply a bit of camouflage, then go to Africa and try and shoot some Lions and other dangerous African game from up very close...

Coastal Redwood portrait
Linked is the portrait of a Coastal Redwood tree. These coastal giants are the tallest living things, and therefore, are quite a bit taller than I. They're a marvel found only, as far as I'm aware, in California where I live. If you like trees or appreciate fine photographic works, you'll love the linked image at National Geographic. You'll also want to check out the rest of the presentation that National Geographic has on these wonderful trees, including the video with just a tiny glimpse at what went into the making of this one photograph. Enjoy. Visit site »

The Last Fighting Tommy
"I was saddened to hear of the death this morning of Harry Patch, the last British survivor or the First World War. We will never forget the bravery and enormous sacrifice of his generation, which will continue to serve as an example to us all." - HM Queen Elizabeth II
And so there are few left now. Lest we forget their sacrifice. Visit site »
Don't take my Kodachrome away
The time has finally come: Kodak has taken Kodachrome away.
This is the way the industry is going. These old emulsions will just become rarer and rarer as time passes by. Visit site »
The Rise of Digital imaging and the Fall of the Old Camera industry
It's been a fascinating few years in digital imaging. I remember thinking as digital cameras were new that my Fuji Velvia 35mm slides would be better than digital for some time to come, and that my Hasselblad 6x6 transparencies would always be even better. Plus, I reasoned, if it does get better, I could always get a digital back for my Hasselblad (not so easily accomplished it turned out.)
And so it was a revolution. This is a great article explaining a bit about how that all came about. It's worth your time... Visit site »
An Ambush and a Comrade Lost
I love great documentary photography. As a teenager I spent hours perusing accounts and published images of WWII in all manner of books from the library and perhaps that is where I first came to appreciate great documentary photography. That is what this is - great documentary photography. It's a narrated slideshow so turn on the sound before clicking the link... Visit site »
