14 Days South

I'm really excited about this book - New Zealand is such a beautiful country to visit and photograph. Naturally I do have some bias as to that statement, having been born and raised there, even though I have lived in California for a number of years now. That said New Zealand really is an enchanting place.

The book is 10 x 8" and not a limited edition - so is about as affordable as can be without using a traditional publisher. If there is demand a hand made limited edition, sized around 12x18, could be made available. In the meantime enjoy the book!

Here is a snippet from the Photographic Notes at the back of the book:

Valentines Day, 2008 - Hiking out to the terminal lake of the Tasman Glacier mid-morning we come across two red roses placed on a rock. I say “placed” because quite obviously they didn’t get there all by themselves - someone had put them there. But who? And why? Was this a particularly cunning individual who had hiked out early morning placing the roses, and was now bringing out his sweetheart for a Valentines Day surprise or proposal? What if someone took them in the intervening time? What if they were left behind, forgotten and forlorn, after a failed proposal? So many questions, no answers, only plate #5 Roses on a Rock, February 14, 2008.

I know you'll enjoy the images, and the book!

Incidentally, the slideshow features a wonderful piano improv piece by The 3am Association in the key of G minor: a beautiful haunting minimalist melody and very fitting to the landscape plates of the book. Almost reminiscent of one of my favorite composers - New Zealand's Douglas Lilburn whose hauntingly Scandinavian melodies are equally befitting the forest and mountain landscapes of southern New Zealand. So I hope you enjoy that aspect of the slideshow too. Do please let me know what you think!
